Weight Management and Healthy Lifestyles

To the Editor We applaud Nyberg et al on their elegant cohort study, “Association of Healthy Lifestyle With Years Lived Without Major Chronic Diseases.” Using a longitudinal design, they found that maintenance of normal body mass index (BMI), being physically active, never smoking, and moderate alcohol consumption delayed the onset of chronic diseases such as dia betes and heart disease. Signaling its importance, normal BMI was the only lifestyle indicator present in the 4 healthiest profiles. Given that obesity and the obesity-related conditions investigated in the study increase risk of severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) symptoms, the findings shou ld encourage health care systems to bolster weight management services, even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
