How to Win Friends and Influence People —as a Nursing Leader

Nursing leaders are responsible for guiding quality, patient-centered care that is safe, timely, efficient, and equitable. The American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) Nurse Executive Competencies have outlined the skills necessary to carry out this important work. Many of these competencies involve the use of “soft skills” to effectively lead, such as effective communication, enthusiasm, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal skills. This paper provides practical guidance for how to cultivate these soft skills using Dale Carnegie’s classic book How to Win Friends and Influence People as a guide.
