Is England Getting it Right Yet? Potential Lessons for Europe

Unwarranted variation in choice of treatment modalities can be due to a lack of good evidence or insufficient application of existing evidence. Endovascular therapy for peripheral arterial occlusive disease has been adopted rapidly, despite a consistent lack of Level 1 evidence on which to base practice guidelines.1 The Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT, https://gettingitrightfirsttime.co.uk) programme in the UK aims to reduce unwarranted variation to improve the quality of care and deliver efficiency and cost savings within its National Health Service.
