Chronic Non-Communicable Disease Risk Calculators – An Overview, Part I

In Western countries, life expectancy and thus the significance of (chronic) non-communicable diseases (NCD) have increased [1]. The most common NCD comprise cardiovascular, pulmonary and musculoskeletal diseases, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and cancer [2]. In elderly women, osteoporosis associated-fractures add to the main causes of disability and mortality [3]. As NCD mostly develop silently and chronic-progressively early detection and intervention are warranted. (Online) risk calculators are a common method for screening.
