Impact of mobility on degree of hydration in octogenarian population examined in the emergency department

Adequate hydration and physical activity have a significant impact on quality of life among all age-groups, especially in the elderly [1,2]. Muscle strength and coordination decrease with age and preserving mobility in the elderly has proven to improve health-related quality of life in a variety of chronic illnesses [1-3]. Hydration and muscle water content have been related to muscle strength, functional capacity and frailty risk [4]. Adequate intake is an important prerequisite for fluid homeostasis [5].
