Multi-compartment MRI as a promising tool for measurement of placental perfusion and oxygenation in early onset Fetal Growth Restriction.

Multi-compartment MRI as a promising tool for measurement of placental perfusion and oxygenation in early onset Fetal Growth Restriction. BJOG. 2020 Aug 08;: Authors: Jacquier M, Salomon LJ Abstract Placental insufficiency, the main cause of Fetal Growth Restriction (FGR), is associated with adverse outcomes for both the mother and infant in the short term, but also with negative longer-term effects (such as heart disease, diabetes and stroke). Doppler Ultrasound is the main means of assessing placental function in clinical practice, but does not necessarily allow a precise distinction between placental insufficiency with secondary FGR, and normal placental function with a constitutionally small fetus.
