In the current study, Ellinghaus and Severe Covid-19 GWAS Group (N Engl J Med. 2020; doi: 10.1056/NEJMoa2020283; PMID:32558485) used Genome wide association analysis (GWAS) to identify potential genetic factors involved in the development and severity of 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19). A total of 1,610 patients with Covid-19 and severe disease (defined as respiratory failure) at seven hospitals in the Italian and Spanish epicenters of the Covid-19 pandemic are included in the study compared to 2,205 control participants.
