Giant cell-rich lesions of bone

Giant cell-rich bone lesions comprize heterogeneous neoplastic and non-neoplastic disorders with diverse clinical, radiological and pathological presentations. They are characterized by the presence of conspicuous osteoclast-type giant cells as a component of the presenting entity. Correlation with imaging, age and location of the lesion is essential to render an accurate diagnosis. Pathological diagnosis ultimately dictates the behavior and direct the management of these lesions. Both benign and malignant tumors of bone can elaborate an osteoclast-rich giant cell response and the distribution of giant cells vary with the type and nature of the underlying biological process.
