Diagnostic accuracy of plasma kynurenine/tryptophan ratio, measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, for pulmonary tuberculosis

Tuberculosis (TB) remains the world ’s major infectious cause of death. Early diagnosis of TB is essential in guiding treatment, yet 40% of new TB cases are undiagnosed, which fuels transmission (1). TB diagnosis is difficult in immunocompromised patients, children and patients with extra-pulmonary TB, as most current diagnostic too ls rely on sputum as the sample of choice. The World Health Organization (WHO) has identified the urgent need for a non-sputum-based TB test, capable of detecting all forms of TB disease, including pulmonary and extra-pulmonary TB, as a critical tool to reach TB control goals (2).
