Substrate Optimization in Baby Hamster Kidney Cell Culture for Foot and Mouth Disease Virus Vaccine Using the Taguchi Method.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of chemical components as supplements using the experimental design method, which aimed at reducing the number of experiments. For this purpose, supplements including chemical components using four levels, with three replications in suspension and batch culture conditions, were examined for 72 hours using the Taguchi experimental design method. From the experiments, it was concluded that the culture media composition had a significant impact on final cell count and pH. High concentrations of different media composition alone were insufficient to ensure higher cell count. According to the results, this insufficiency was associated with an increase of 20% in the number of final cells. In the majority of cultures, the number of final cells at 48 hours increased relative to the number of final cells at 24 hours after culturing the cells. PMID: 32742521 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Madubueze CE, Dachollom S, Onwubuya IO Abstract Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS CoV-2). It was declared on March 11, 2020, by the World Health Organization as pandemic disease. The disease has neither approved medicine nor vaccine and has made governments and scholars search for drastic measures in combating the pandemic. Regrettably, the spread of the virus and mortality due to COVID-19 has continued to increase daily. Hence, it is imperative to control the spread of the disease particularly using nonpharmacological strategie...

Authors: Chukwudozie OS, Chukwuanukwu RC, Iroanya OO, Eze DM, Duru VC, Dele-Alimi TO, Kehinde BD, Bankole TT, Obi PC, Okinedo EU Abstract The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has previously never been identified with humans, thereby creating devastation in public health. The need for an effective vaccine to curb this pandemic cannot be overemphasized. In view of this, we designed a subcomponent antigenic peptide vaccine targeting the N-terminal (NT) and C-terminal (CT) RNA binding domains of the nucleocapsid protein that aid in viral replica...

Avibacterium paragallinarum, the causative agent of infectious coryza, is known to release outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). In the present study, we investigated the composition, bioactivities, and functional properties of the OMVs of A. paragallinarum. Following extraction and purification, the OMVs were observed to be spherical in shape, with diameters ranging from 20 to 300 nm. The vesicles contained endotoxin as well as genomic DNA. The molecular weights of the OMV-contained protein fragments were mostly concentrated at 65 and 15 kDa. The components of the OMV proteins were mainly various functional enzymes (e.g., ATP-d...
