[Septic arthritis of the native joint and after ligamentoplasty : Diagnosis and treatment].

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Septic arthritis is an acute emergency. It occurs more frequently in patients with pre-existing degenerative or chronic inflammatory joint diseases than in the general population. The causative microorganisms can be introduced in various ways.
DIAGNOSTICS: A rapid diagnosis is of great importance for the success of the therapy. In the clinical examination, the typical signs of inflammation are noticeable. The gold standard is the aspiration of synovial fluid and the subsequent laboratory and microbiological investigation.
THERAPY: A prerequisite for successful therapy is the early initiation of an antimicrobial pathogen-specific treatment and the surgical alleviation of the joint.
