New developments in angiography for the diagnosis and management of diabetic retinopathy

The global prevalence of diabetes mellitus is expected to dramatically rise to greater to 500 million people by 2035[1] and to top 600 million by 2040[2]. Given this trend, it will be increasingly important to limit both the microvascular and macrovascular related complications of diabetes. Macrovascular, or large vessel disease, can lead to cardiovascular and stroke related complications. Microvascular changes are at the level of smaller blood vessels and can lead to renal compromise and in the eye, retinopathy.
