Unilateral leg freezing in moyamoya syndrome

Moyamoya vasculopathy (MMV) is characterized by intracranial vascular stenosis or occlusion of bilateral terminal internal carotid arteries, along with collateral vascular networks around the narrowing arteries resembling a “puff of smoke”. Two major categories of MMV include 1) an idiopathic, presumably genetic, form or moyamoya disease (MMD), and 2) moyamoya syndrome (MMS) where there are associated conditions such as atherosclerosis, sickle cell disease and neurofibromatosis. MMV can result in ischemic or hemorr hagic stroke, transient ischemic attack (TIA), seizures, headache, and cognitive impairment.
