Labetalol Infusion Controls Paradoxical Hypertension and Decreases Plasma Renin Activity Following Repair of Coarctation of the Aorta in Children

The recently published article by Gareth et al.1 investigated the effects of labetalol infusion on blood pressure, plasma catecholamine levels, and plasma renin activity in children undergoing repair of coarctation of the aorta. The final results indicated that labetalol could effectively inhibit the activation of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) and is beneficial in the control of paradoxical hypertension. Although this study provided certain evidence for the repair of coarctation of the aorta, the following limitations need to be considered.
