Encouraging and Assisting PeriAnesthesia Certification

My practicum project for my MSN was to develop a program to improve patient safety by assisting staff in obtaining their perianesthesia certification. The literature review showed that units with a higher ratio of certified nurses provided a higher quality of care and produce better patient outcomes including fewer surgical site infections, fewer patient falls, and a decrease in failure to resuscitate rates. Nurses with certification also showed higher job satisfaction and confidence in delivering care to the perianesthesia patient.
