CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that DBT effectively reduces several facets of SI, but more work is required to target NSSI ideation. Results also suggest that targeting shame/guilt may be important to reducing SI and NSSI ideation. PMID: 32969037 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Brogan K, Jarvi A, Klopf H, Turner T Abstract Background: This case report illustrates that the use of a series of lifestyle interventions delivered via the "Vital Mind Reset" online program led to the resolution of disabling psychiatric symptoms. Summary: A 40-year-old, married, Caucasian female, with onset of suicidal ideation as a teenager, was treated with antidepressants and was later formally diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder (DID), borderline personality traits, and bipolar disorder (BD). In the ensuing years, the patient was treated with 35 psychiatric medications. Additio...

ConclusionThis study shows that there is a significant overrepresentation of Travellers in mental health services, suggesting significant need for accessible and acceptable interventions. Those with a BPD diagnosis have a significantly higher risk of self-harm, representing an ultra-high-risk population. These findings can be used to plan future service development projects to better meet the needs of this population: they may require specially adapted version of the mentalisation-based treatment programme.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical and neuropsychological effects of rTMS on the dorsomedial prefrontal cortex (DMPFC) in BPD patients. METHODS: Fourteen patients with BPD were randomized into two groups (active vs. sham) for 15 sessions of rTMS on the DMPFC. Clinical effects were measured using the Borderline Symptoms List (BSL), Clinical Global Impression Scale for BPD (CGI-BPD), Borderline Evaluation of Severity over Time (BEST), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS), and Barratt's Impulsiveness Scale (BIS). Neuropsychological effects were determined by ...

AbstractResearch on psychotherapies for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is increasingly focused on understanding not only which treatments work but why and for whom they work. The present pilot study evaluated the temporal relations between five hypothesized change targets —posttraumatic cognitions, guilt, shame, general emotion dysregulation, and experiential avoidance—and PTSD severity among women with PTSD, borderline personality disorder, and recent suicidal and/or self‐injurious behaviors. Participants (N = 26) were randomized to receive 1 year of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) with or without t...

CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that impulsive psychiatric features and maladaptive defense style may be related to suicidal risk in patients with BPD. Therefore, our findings may help clinicians in estimating the risk of suicide in patients with BPD. PMID: 32791818 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionsIn light of our findings, we believe that the current legislation and practice of EAS for people with personality disorders is based on an inadequate understanding of underlying psychopathology and a lack of awareness about the contemporary treatment literature. Moreover, we assert that this practice neglects the individual ’s potential for having a life worth living.

We present the course of a 31-year-old man who was offered the free choice between disorder-oriented treatment or discharge from in-patient treatment. The clinical decision to offer the choice to the patient was based on the judgment of given capacity of self-determination except for short periods of acute crisis. Deliberate refraining from the use of coercive interventions and demanding responsibility for change from the patient paved the way for psychotherapeutic treatment and the reactivation of his own skills.
