Invited commentary for “The What? How? And Who? Of Video Based Assessment

“The What? How? And Who? of Video Based Assessment” by Dr. Pugh et al. is a timely review which evaluates the current state of video review in assessment of surgical performance and suggests means for implementation and spread of this tool more broadly.1 The possibilities for use of surgical vid eos in didactic education, formative assessment and summative assessment are manifold and yet as with any innovation, new challenges arise.
