Is kaban ’s protocol justified in the present scenario?

The successful surgical management of TMJ ankylosis is a challenging procedure that the maxillofacial surgeons face in their practice. Non-compliance with active jaw exercises and relapse is infuriating for both the surgeon and the patient. In 1990, Kaban introduced a structured protocol and later modified it in 2009 with the advent of distraction osteogenesis.1.2 Traditionally, TMJ ankylosis was managed by osteoarthrectomy with or without TMJ reconstruction and secondary orthognathic procedures.
