Temporal trends in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest during the COVID-19 outbreak

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), responsible for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), overwhelmed worldwide healthcare systems requiring abrupt changes in hospitals reorganization and human resources allocation. Recent literature data demonstrated a global reduction of hospitalizations for acute myocardial infarction [1] and urgent pacemaker implantations [2], mainly related to the fear of COVID-19 infection, with consequent development of life-threating complications due to delayed treatment.
