Signet-ring cell carcinoma of the colon presenting as diffuse ulcerating polyposis in the upper and lower GI tract
A 75-year-old male patient presented with non-bloody diarrhea, nausea and vomiting since two weeks and reported weight loss of ten kilograms within the last month. Laboratory analysis showed mild normocytic anemia, slightly elevated C reactive protein and an elevated stool calprotectin. Microbiological tests were negative for viral and bacterial enteric pathogens. Upper GI endoscopy revealed innumerable, partly ulcerated polyps with a maximal size of 1 cm in all sections of the stomach (A) as well as in the duodenum.
