We would like to thank Irwin et al. for the complimentary comments regarding our study.1 Undoubtedly, postoperative pain management strategies focusing primarily on non-opioid based regimens are likely to result in a level of opioid mitigation that is variable, depending on the study population and type of surgery. In reply to the query regarding the reasons for the reduction in opioid consumption, we think it would be speculative to attribute the magnitude of opioid reduction seen in our study solely on the introduction of acetaminophen (paracetamol) alone.
