Which Surgical Specialties Provide Craniomaxillofacial Trauma Services at ACS Level I Trauma Centers

Trauma Center (TC) designation is a process outlined and promulgated at a state or local level. Each state identifies specific criteria by which to categorize TCs. These categories vary from state to state, and are typically outlined through legislative or regulatory authority.1 TC Verification is an evaluation process done by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) to appraise and improve trauma care. The ACS does not designate TCs; instead, it verifies the presence of the resources listed in Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient (ROCIP).1 While ACS verification is a laudable goal, some of the most renowned trauma centers in the United States (US), such as the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland, and Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, are not ACS verified trauma centers.
