Re work experience: yes that's very understandable. Hopefully in the future when things become a bit more normal you can arrange some and see what you think.
I don't think you need to be "really really clever" - clearly you need to be intelligent but if you've met the requirements (usually at least AAA) then I'd say you're more than equipped to deal with the course.
