Alveolar Ridge Regeneration of Damaged Extraction Sockets using a Bovine-derived Bone Graft in Association with a Titanium Foil: Prospective Case Series.

CONCLUSION: Bovine bone graft in association with Tseal achieved horizontal reconstruction of the alveolar crest in compromised socket within 6 months after surgery. PMID: 32655036 [PubMed - in process]

Delayed-union or non-union between a host bone and a graft is problematic in clinical treatment of segmental bone defects in orthopedic cases. Based on a preliminary study of human periosteum allografts from this laboratory, the present work has extensively investigated the use of human cadaveric tissue-engineered periosteum-allograft constructs as an approach to healing such serious orthopedic surgical situations. In this current report, human cadaveric periosteum-wrapped bone allografts and counterpart controls without periosteum were implanted subcutaneously in athymic mice (nu/nu) for 10, 20, and, for the first time, 4...

Authors: Aimetti M, Benfenati SP, De Angelis N, Romano F, Pallotti S, Kim DM, Nevins M Abstract This investigation was designed to evaluate the long-term effectiveness of human placental allograft in root coverage procedures in terms of clinical and esthetic outcomes. Thirteen patients with 28 maxillary or mandibular recession defects> 4 mm deep were reexamined at 6 months and 5 years postoperatively. Overall, mean percentage of root coverage decreased from 65.58% ± 16.45% to 49.75% ± 19.40% with a greater stability of the gingival margin in the mandible. At 5 years, 18 sites maintained at least 2 ...

Azithromycin prophylaxis (AP) in lung transplant recipients has been shown to reduce the composite endpoint of death or chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD) onset but without a clear effect on overall survival. Our program began using AP in 2010. We sought to evaluate the association between AP and survival, the risk of CLAD and baseline lung allograft dysfunction (BLAD).

The most common side-effect of anterior iliac crest (AIC) bone grafting is postoperative pain. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block for reducing donor site pain after harvesting AIC bone graft.

Alarmins, sequestered self-molecules containing damage-associated molecular patterns, are released during tissue injury to drive innate immune cell proinflammatory responses. Whether endogenous negative regulators controlling early immune responses are also released at the site of injury is poorly understood. Herein, we establish that the stromal cell–derived alarmin interleukin 33 (IL-33) is a local factor that directly restricts the proinflammatory capacity of graft-infiltrating macrophages early after transplantation. By assessing heart transplant recipient samples and using a mouse heart transplant model, we esta...

Children undergoing congenital cardiac surgery often outgrow the valve implants. These children are thus committed to morbid reoperations for successive exchanges of the vavular implants that they have outgrown. Therefore the holy grail of congenital cardiac surgery is a valve implant that grows with the recipient child. Preserved homografts routinely are used as valve implants, but they do not grow as the child grows because they lose viability during preservation. In contrast, pulmonary autografts and pediatric heart transplants grow with the recipient children.
