Involvement of the lipoprotein receptor LRP1 in AMP-IBP5-mediated migration and proliferation of human keratinocytes and fibroblasts

Skin-derived host defense peptides (HDPs) have been documented as important effector molecules of the innate defense against microorganisms. HDPs also possess immunomodulatory properties, including induction of cytokine/chemokine production, stimulation of chemotaxis and regulation of cutaneous wound healing by promoting cell migration and proliferation [1]. A previous study involving proteomic-based technologies developed an antimicrobial peptide derived from insulin-like growth factor binding protein-5 (AMP-IBP5) that showed broad-spectrum activity against pathogens [2].
