Systemic therapy in the management of recurrent or metastatic salivary duct carcinoma: a systematic review

Salivary duct carcinoma (SDC) is one of the 22 subtypes of salivary gland cancer (SGC), and has histological and immunohistochemical similarities with high grade intraductal and ductal carcinoma of the breast [1]. SDC is most prevalent in the parotid gland and approximately one third of the cases arises from a pleomorphic adenoma (carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma) [2, 3]. SDC comprises approximately 4-10% of all SGC and distinguishes itself from many of the other subtypes by its often very aggressive behavior [4-7].
