Risk of physician burnout in the North American allergist-immunologist workforce
Physician burnout has been increasingly recognized as a public health crisis.1,2 North American physicians have higher burnout rates than age-, sex-, and lifestyle-matched adults who do not practice medicine. North American physicians currently experience a higher suicide rate (mean of approximately 1 suicide per day) than any other group of professionals.3,4 More than 200 studies have been published in health-related journals on the topic of physician burnout, with additional news, articles, and research published almost daily.
