Pediatric Uveitis and Scleritis in a Multi-Ethnic Asian Population.

CONCLUSION: Majority had noninfectious etiologies. Uveitis associated with juvenile idiopathic arthritis was rare. PMID: 32643984 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

We report on three Mexican patients clinically diagnosed with BS who exhibited a likely pathogenic variant in NOD2 as revealed by whole-exome sequencing (WES) and Sanger sequencing: two variants (c.1000 C > T/p.Arg334Trp and c.1538 T > C/p.Met513Thr) lie in the ATP/Mg2+ binding site, whereas the other (c.3019dupC/p.Leu1007ProfsTer2) introduces a premature stop codon disrupting the last LRR domain (LRR9) formation; all three variants are consistent with gain-of-function changes. Interestingly, all these patients presented concomitant likely pathogenic variants in other inflammatory disease-...

We describe a 38-year-old man with known BS who presented for orthopaedic review following right-sided patellar dislocation. MRI of the injured knee demonstrated diffuse synovitis and prominent fatty tissue resembling lipoma arborescens with evidence of recent patellar dislocation. Synovectomy was performed and confirmed granulomatous synovitis. Knee imaging findings are described for the first time. Combining distinct morphological bone changes with synovitis which resembles lipoma arborescens and histology which includes sarcoidal-type granulomatous synovitis should lead the radiologist and pathologist to consider the diagnosis of BS.

Abstract Since its discovery in 1945, methotrexate has become a standard therapy for number of diseases, including oncological, inflammatory and pulmonary ones. Major physiological interactions of methotrexate include folate pathway, adenosine, prostaglandins, leukotrienes and cytokines. Methotrexate is used in treatment of pulmonary sarcoidosis as a second line therapy and is drug of choice in patients who are not candidates for corticosteroid therapy, with recommended starting weekly dose of 5-15 mg. Number of studies dealt with methotrexate use in rheumatoid arthritis and oncological patients. Authors are ...

Authors: Koda K, Toyoshima M, Nozue T, Suda T Abstract A 69-year-old woman presented with appetite loss, fatigue, and a low-grade fever. She had been receiving certolizumab pegol for rheumatoid arthritis for six years. Computed tomography of the chest showed multiple micronodules in both lungs and bilateral hilar and mediastinal lymphadenopathy. An ophthalmic examination showed the findings of uveitis. Lymphocytosis with an increased CD4/CD8 ratio was seen in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. Video-assisted thoracoscopic biopsy specimens obtained from the right lung and a right hilar lymph node showed noncaseous ep...

AbstractA 16 ‐year old female presented with persistent, painless swelling of both upper and lower lips, with intermittent spontaneous bleeding, for the past 6 months (Fig.1A). Examination revealed soft, non‐tender, erythematous swollen lips; systemic examination was unremarkable. The differentials to be con sidered in this patient are angioedema, cheilitis granulomatosa, sarcoidosis, Crohn’s disease, infections like tuberculosis, IgG4‐related disease and malignancy.

Authors: Sesé L, Jeny F, Uzunhan Y, Khamis W, Freynet O, Valeyre D, Bernaudin JF, Annesi-Maesano I, Nunes H Abstract Few studies have examined the effects of air pollution in diffuse interstitial lung disease and they have focused on small numbers of patients. Most data are available in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and studies suggest that the level of exposure to pollutants may influence the development of acute exacerbations (ozone and NO2), their incidence (NO2), decline in respiratory function (PM10) and death (PM10 and PM2.5). Several studies show an increase in the incidence of rheumatoid arthritis in...
