Retrieval anchor-assisted endoscopic ultrasound-guided gastroenterostomy for gastric outlet obstruction.

CONCLUSIONS: EUS-GE is a safe and effective procedure for GOO. The retrieval anchor can make EUS-GE easier to perform successfully. PMID: 32643452 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Background: The aim of this study was to assess the accuracy of clinical screening examination in newborns with dislocated hips compared with ultrasound scan (USS). Methods: Newborns, up to 3 months of age, with confirmed hip dislocations on USS were prospectively enrolled in a multinational observational study. Data from 2010 to 2016 were reviewed to determine pretreatment clinical examination findings of the treating orthopaedic surgeon as well as baseline ultrasound indices of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). All infants had been referred to specialist centres with expertise in DDH, due to abnormal birth e...

There are>1.5 billion people with chronic liver disease worldwide, causing liver diseases to be a significant global health issue. Diffuse parenchymal liver diseases, including hepatic steatosis, fibrosis, metabolic diseases, and hepatitis cause chronic liver injury and may progress to fibrosis and eventually hepatocellular carcinoma. As early diagnosis and treatment of these diseases impact the progression and outcome, the need for assessment of the liver parenchyma has increased. While the current gold standard for evaluation of the hepatic parenchymal tissue, biopsy has disadvantages and limitations. Consequently, no...

It is possible to tailor the frequency of laser light to selectively disrupt the bonds or structure of particular arrangements of molecules - such as, say, the harmful protein aggregates found in neurodegenerative and other age-related conditions. Researchers here showcase early work into the disruption of amyloids, a class of altered of proteins that feature prominently in numerous conditions. The challenge in this sort of approach is usually not that of achieving the desired disruption, but rather doing so without the delivery of so much energy, released as heat, that the process kills surrounding cells and tissues. Past...

ConclusionEarly recognition, appropriate triaging, accurate airway evaluation, and prompt management of such injuries are essential. In this case series, we introduce the potential role of focused airway ultrasound in suspected laryngeal trauma, and the correlation of these exam findings with that of computed tomography (CT) scanning, based on the Schaefer classification of laryngeal injury.

Traumatism of head arteries are rare, but among them the superficial temporal artery is the most exposed and less protected vessel. A pseudoaneurysm of the superficial temporal artery may occurs after a blunt head trauma in old patients or during vigorous activity in younger people. Diagnosis should be made primarily upon history and physical examination while duplex ultrasound is appropriate to confirm the diagnosis and CT scan to exclude other possible concomitant pathologies. Direct surgical treatment is the first and main option to solve bleeding and prevent future complications.

CONCLUSIONS: A systematic approach for grayscale imaging preset optimization has been proposed and successfully applied for a specific clinical task. This approach was designed to be generalizable and relatively flexible, which would facilitate movement away from previous qualitative and subjective approaches. This study aimed to compare the effects of high intensity ultrasound (HIU) applied at various amplitudes (20~40%) and for different durations (1~10 min) on the physiochemical and structural properties of goat milk β-lactoglobulin. No significant change was observed in the protein electrophoretic patterns by sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). Deconvolution and second derivative of the Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR) showed that the percentage of β-sheet of goat milk β-lactoglobulin was significantly decreased while those of α-helix and random ...
