Comment on: Mental and emotional representations of "weight loss": free-word association networks in members of bariatric surgery-related social media communities

In the quest to understand the acceptance of bariatric surgery by the eligible patient population, authors explored this concept using a novel word association technique borrowed from the fields of market research and psychology (File, 2019). Free word association encourages respondents to express motivations, beliefs, attitudes, or feelings about a topic, without limiting or suggesting responses as in typical predefined questionnaires. This approach provides valuable insight into the perspective and mindset of people who may be candidates for surgery and how to frame discussions about weight loss.
