Introduction

It is projected that by 2050, people aged 65 years and older will account for 25% of the population in developed countries. With state of the art medical technologies and novel treatments significantly improving longevity, there is a need more than ever to understand the distinctive needs of the aging population. Not only do we have to understand concepts of frailty, sarcopenia, functional reserve, but also be able to assess our patients social and functional needs, which can be vastly different than younger adults.
