Rhinoplasty in the Aging Patient

Aging can slowly affect the appearance and function of the nose. Rhinoplasty is becoming a more common procedure for older patients seeking reversal of these effects on their nasal form and function. A number of anatomical changes contribute to the classic changes in the aging nose: tip ptosis and a dorsal hump or pseudohump. The preoperative evaluation is critical in this patient population in which comorbidities are almost guaranteed and the risks of general anesthesia may frequently outweigh the benefits of the procedure, especially when solely cosmetic.
