Conclusions: This single-institution study demonstrated the feasibility of SBRT for locoregional recurrence of esophageal cancer with minimal treatment-related toxicity and high rates of treated tumor control. Prospective studies identifying ideal salvage SBRT candidates for locoregional failure as well as validating its safety are needed.

CONCLUSIONS: Numerous personal, demographic, and treatment center related factors account for variability in neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy for clinically node-positive esophageal adenocarcinoma, although neoadjuvant therapy was associated with a survival benefit. Further efforts are needed to identify reasons for these differences and design interventions to provide more equitable care for patients with esophageal cancer. The objective of this review is to identify the distribution pattern of metastatic lymphatic spread in relation to histology, tumor location, and T-stage in patients with esophageal cancer.
