Outcomes of stand-alone anterior lumbar interbody fusion of L5 –S1 using a novel implant with anterior plate fixation

Stand-alone anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) is increasingly performed to treat various spine pathologies [1-4]. Recent ALIF implant designs demonstrated excellent fusion rates [5,6] with minimal complications [4,6,7]. Compared with posterior (PLIF) or transforaminal (TLIF) lumbar interbody fusion, stand-alone ALIF has similar fusion rates [8], with the advantages of reduced blood loss, operative time and postoperative pain [9].
