Programmatic Approaches to Increase the Health of Children and Senior Citizens Using Health Literacy Best Practices.

Programmatic Approaches to Increase the Health of Children and Senior Citizens Using Health Literacy Best Practices. Stud Health Technol Inform. 2020 Jun 25;269:285-293 Authors: Peña Gonzalez D, Roberts R, Johnson K, Villaire M Abstract Effective communication is essential to improving individual health and wellbeing, especially for those with marginalized literacy levels. While there are many populations that benefit from effective communication, this report concentrates on child and senior populations. Three programs developed by the Institute for Healthcare Advancement (IHA) and partner agencies in the U.S. are explored as examples of practical techniques that can be included in programmatic initiatives. The authors also provide suggestions for sustainability. The discussed programs are intended to: reduce emergency department visits; prevent falls among senior citizens; and provide health education and outreach to isolated senior citizens in a Southern California (U.S.) community.
