Conclusion: In conclusion, when an elevated blood pressure was discovered in elderly persons at a health screening, 70% of those received a hypertension diagnosis within 10 years, with a mean time to diagnosis of 5 years. Health care actions should be enforced to shorten this time lag both in terms of information to the individuals, as well as the handling of this patient group in primary care. In the present study, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinases (EGFR-TKIs) combined with or without angiogenesis inhibitors in advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We searched published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing EGFR-TKIs with and without angiogenesis inhibitors for the treatment of advanced NSCLC. PubMed, EMBASE, PMC, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) databases were searched. The extracted data on progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were measured in terms of ...

In this study, we found that genipin sensitizes oxaliplatin-induced apoptosis for the first time using colony forming assay, FACS analysis, and western blotting in gastric cancer. Additionally, genipin induced p53 expression in AGS, MKN45, and MKN28 cells. Also, genipin induced autophagy and LC3 expression. Knockdown of LC3 decreased cell death enhanced by the combination of oxaliplatin and genipin. In summary, we showed that genipin increases the oxaliplatin-induced cell death via p53-DRAM autophagy. Based on this, we suggest that genipin is a sensitizer of oxaliplatin.

This study aimed to determine whether the presence of chronic PD in old age increases the risk of PC using data in the large-scale elderly cohort.Materials and Methods: This nationwide population-based cohort study examined data of 121,240 South Korean individuals aged ≥ 60 years from the National Health Insurance Service-Elderly Cohort database who completed a national program between 2002 and 2015. For a maximum 10 years' observation period, patients with incident PC with chronic PD compared with those without chronic PD were retrospectively tracked, and Cox proportional hazard ratios and 95% confidence intervals (CIs...

Glaucoma is a serious disease that can lead to irreversible loss of vision. Patients with primary congenital glaucoma may have elevated intraocular pressure. Hypertension causes damages to intraocular structures and affects the Schlemm's canal, collector channels, trabecular meshwork, and optic nerve's molecular structures. An important gene that is defective in patients with glaucoma is CYP1B1, a gene associated with optic nerve deterioration. CYP1B1is a key enzyme involved in the metabolism of exogenous and endogenous compounds. Also, it is critical in the detoxification of pre-carcinogens, such as polycyclic aromatic hy...
