Efficacy, safety and tolerability, the imperfect triangle arising from the new low volume colon preparations

Adequate bowel preparation is crucial for quality colonoscopy. It is widely recognized that a poor bowel preparation negatively influences all the primary quality indicators for colonoscopy: it reduces adenoma detection rate (ADR) and both cecal intubation and withdrawal time are prolonged in case of poor bowel preparation [1,2]. Since the consequences of inadequate bowel preparation are so significant, endoscopists set efficacy as the priority in judging and choosing a bowel preparation over another.
