Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D is associated with insulin resistance independently of obesity in children ages 5 –17

Vitamin D deficiency is very commonly reported in all populations worldwide [1]. As vitamin D is responsible for calcium and phosphate homeostasis [2]. The appropriate serum concentration of vitamin D is necessary for bone health, and deficiency in children may cause rickets, and growth retardation [1]. The synthesis of vitamin D in the skin can be reduced by pigmentation, physical factors blocking exposure to sunlight such as clothing, winter season, air pollution, high altitude, and cloudy weather conditions [3].
