Total Hospital Costs and Readmission Rate of Patient-Specific Instrument in Total Knee Arthroplasty Patients

The objective of the study was to evaluate total hospital cost and readmission rate at 30, 60, 90, and 365 days in PSI-guided TKA patients. We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent a primary TKA for osteoarthritis from the Premier Perspective Database between 2014 and 2017 Q2. TKA with PSI patients were identified using appropriate keywords from billing records and compared against patients without PSI. Patients were excluded if they were

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Baduanjin qigong on postural control and physical function in older adults with knee osteoarthritis. Methods: Fifty-six individuals over 60 years of age with knee osteoarthritis were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (n = 28) or a control group (n = 28). Participants in the experimental group received a ...

Authors: Fiador F, Poyade M, Bennett L Abstract Arthritis is one of the most common disease states worldwide but is still publicly misunderstood and lacks engaging public awareness materials. Within the UK, the most prevalent types of arthritis are osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The two are commonly mistaken as the same disease but, in fact, have very different pathogenesis, symptoms and treatments. This chapter describes a study which aimed to assess whether an augmented reality (AR) application could be used to raise awareness about the difference between OA and RA.An application was created f...

AbstractBackgroundPre-operative evaluation of pelvic motion using the sacral slope (SS) has been proposed for risk assessment of dislocation after total hip arthroplasty (THA). The purposes of this study were to elucidate the statistical characteristics of pre-operative and post-operative pelvic mobility and investigate the relationship between pre-operative spinopelvic factors and post-operative pelvic mobility.MethodsEighty-six patients with osteoarthritis were assessed. The parameters evaluated were lumbar lordosis angle and the SS in the standing and sitting preo-peratively and post-operatively. The pelvic mobility was...

AbstractObjectivesThe use of ultrasound (US) guidance for the injection and aspiration of joints has improved accuracy. The aim of this study was to determine if differences exist in the level of patient satisfaction, functionality, and the quality of life in adult patients receiving US-guided (USG) versus landmark-guided (LMG) knee procedures.MethodsThis prospective, randomized study enrolled 41 patients undergoing knee procedures to USG or LMG groups. visual analogue scale (VAS) for pain, knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome score (KOOS), and patient satisfaction score on a 5-point Likert scale were measured pre-procedure, immediate (

Conclusions: This study demonstrated that both US-guided and blind GNB, in the treatment of knee OA, were effective in reducing symptoms and improving physical function. GNB wasn't an effective treatment for isokinetic muscle function. USguided injections may yield more effective clinical results than blind injections. PMID: 32606270 [PubMed]

In the mammalian skeletal system, osteogenesis and angiogenesis are intimately linked during bone growth and regeneration in bone modeling and during bone homeostasis in bone remodeling. Recent studies have expanded our knowledge about the molecular and cellular mechanisms responsible for coupling angiogenesis and bone formation. Type H vessels, termed such because of high expression of Endomucin (Emcn) and CD31, have recently been identified and have the ability to induce bone formation. Factors including platelet-derived growth factor type BB (PDGF-BB), slit guidance ligand 3 (SLIT3), hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HI...

In this study, we investigate if PRG4 expression is associated with tribological properties of regenerated cartilage, and is able to predict its wear resistant status. Methods: Two different strategies including bone marrow enrichment plus microfracture (B/BME-MFX) and microfracture alone (B-MFX) of cartilage repair in sheep were used. PRG4 expression and a series of tribological parameters on regenerated cartilage were rigorously examined and compared. Results: Highly and continuously expression of PRG4 in regenerated cartilage surface was negatively correlated with each tribological parameter (P
