Association Between Low Back Pain and Body Mass Index in Adult Twins: An analysis of monozygotic and dizygotic twins of the Washington State Twin Registry

Low Back Pain (LBP) is a major contributor to global disability and overall disease burden.1 –3 Debilitating LBP can have negative consequences by restricting work, reducing productivity, and impairing activities of daily living. Thus, insights into the causes, prevention, and treatment of LBP have important public health implications. A variety of causes have been described, such as dege nerative spine change, trauma, and more, however questions remain as LBP appears to be multifactorial.2 Therefore, it is important to identify causal factor(s) of LBP so that preventative measures and targeted therapies can be mobilized quickly to minimize disabled time.
