Metformin inhibits TGF‑β1‑induced epithelial‑mesenchymal transition and liver metastasis of pancreatic cancer cells. Oncol Rep. 2020 Jul;44(1):371-381 Authors: Yoshida J, Ishikawa T, Endo Y, Matsumura S, Ota T, Mizushima K, Hirai Y, Oka K, Okayama T, Sakamoto N, Inoue K, Kamada K, Uchiyama K, Takagi T, Naito Y, Itoh Y Abstract Epithelial‑mesenchymal transition (EMT) is considered a crucial event in the development of cancer metastasis. Metformin is a drug used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Recently, increasing evidence has indicated that metformin possesses anti‑tumor activities. ...

Conclusion: Our study showed that, despite insulin treatment, pregnant women with T2D displayed a proinflammatory status consistent with high proportions of CD3+ and CD4+ T cells, upregulation of Th1 cytokines, and low IL-10 production, suggesting a reduced immune-suppressive activity of regulatory T cells. However, GDM, although associated with proinflammatory status, has shown increased humoral immunity consistent with high proportion of CD19+ B cells. Thus, the lack of response to insulin in diabetes during pregnancy and clinical implications of these immunological parameters deserves further investigations. PMID: 3...

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a metabolic disease characterized by increased inflammation, NOD-like receptors (NLRs) activation and gut dysbiosis. Our research group has recently reported that intestinal Th17 response limits gut dysbiosis and LPS translocation to visceral adipose tissue (VAT), protecting against metabolic syndrome. However, whether NOD2 receptor contributes intestinal Th17 immunity, modulates dysbiosis-driven metabolic tissue inflammation, and obesity-induced T2D remain poorly understood. In this context, we observed that mice lacking NOD2 fed a high-fat diet (HFD) display severe obesity, exhibit greater adipos...

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a complex and progressive disease that has reached epidemic proportions globally [1]. Due to its asymptomatic nature at early stages, diagnosis and timely intensification of treatment is often delayed. This results in micro- and macrovascular complications that not only impact the well-being of a person, but also poses a vast economic burden on the healthcare systems [1]. Despite compelling cumulative evidence of the benefit of early good glycaemic control [2,3] and guideline recommendations [4], more than half of the people living with T2DM remain inadequately controlled [5].

In the United States, there is clear evidence that minority populations continue to be underrepresented in clinical research related to new therapies for common and serious long-term medical conditions such as type 2 diabetes (T2D). This is despite these same populations facing a continuing and disproportionate burden of T2D, which shows no signs of abating.
