Covid-19 could lead to strokes in up to six out of 10 patients hospitalised

Researchers from the universities of Liverpool, Southampton, Newcastle and University College London looked at 125 people hospitalised with the virus at the height of the UK's crisis in April.

(University of Utah Health) Changes in blood platelets triggered by COVID-19 could contribute to the onset of heart attacks, strokes, and other serious complications in some patients who have the disease, according to University of Utah Health scientists. The researchers found that inflammatory proteins produced during infection significantly alter the function of platelets, making them " hyperactive " and more prone to form dangerous and potentially deadly blood clots.

We read with great interest the systematic review and meta-analysis by Kunutsor and Laukkanen, which was recently published in the Journal of Infection and attempted to investigate the cardiovascular complications of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) [1]. The authors investigated and reported the pooled incidence for cardiac arrhythmia, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, disseminated intravascular coagulation, cardiac arrest, acute coronary syndrome, stroke, and among these pulmonary embolism (PE) and venous thromboembolism (VTE).
