Central Pain in Patient with Cancer (GP789)

Despite the current efforts to manage cancer pain with opioids, a significant number of cancer patients still experience pain. One reason may be that such patients have pain that comes from problems with the brain ’s processing of pain rather than nociception, neuropathy, or inflammation. Pain related to aberrant central nervous system processing is called “central pain.” Central pain is the key pathway in many chronic pain syndromes (e.g. fibromyalgia).
