A complex case of low-phospholipid-associated cholelithiasis syndrome.

We report a case of a 40-year-old female patient with clinical criteria for LPAC syndrome and with ABCB4 gene mutation. She had a complex history of choledocholithiasis recurrence despite treatment with ursodeoxycholic acid and multiple therapeutic endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, and she developed portal vein thrombosis. Globoid cell leukodystrophy (GLD; Krabbe disease) is a progressive, incurable neurodegenerative disease caused by deficient activity of the hydrolytic enzyme galactosylceramidase (GALC). The ensuing cytotoxic accumulation of psychosine results in diffuse central and peripheral nervous system (CNS, PNS) demyelination. Presymptomatic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is the only treatment for infantile-onset GLD; however, clinical outcomes of HSCT recipients often remain poor, and procedure-related morbidity is high. There are no effective therapies for symptomatic patients. Herein, we demonstrate in the natural...

Authors: Baek J, Jung SJ, Shim JS, Jeon YW, Seo E, Kim HC Abstract OBJECTIVES: We compared the associations of 3 computed tomography (CT)-based abdominal adiposity indexes with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) among middle-aged Korean men and women. METHODS: The participants were 1366 men and 2480 women community-dwellers aged 30-64 years. Three abdominal adiposity indexes-visceral fat area (VFA), subcutaneous fat area (SFA), and visceral-to-subcutaneous fat ratio (VSR)-were calculated from abdominal CT scans. NAFLD was determined by calculating the Liver Fat Score from comorbidities and blood tests. A...

Authors: Hou Y, Hu S, Li X, He W, Wu G Abstract The liver plays a central role in amino acid (AA) metabolism in humans and other animals. In all mammals, this organ synthesizes many AAs (including glutamate, glutamine, alanine, aspartate, asparagine, glycine, serine, and homoarginine), glucose, and glutathione (a major antioxidant). Similar biochemical reactions occur in the liver of birds except for those for arginine and glutamine hydrolysis, proline oxidation, and gluconeogenesis from AAs. In contrast to mammals and birds, the liver of fish has high rates of glutamate and glutamine oxidation for ATP production. ...

CONCLUSIONS: 3-D-printed anatomically precise grafts could not provide successful transplantation with stent-sparing anastomosis; nonetheless, de novo cartilage regeneration in situ appears to be promising for tracheal graft adaptability. Further graft refinement and strategies for managing granulated tissues are still needed to improve graft outcomes. PMID: 32774730 [PubMed]

CONCLUSIONS: These changes of intestinal fungal microbiota in CHD-NAFLD patients may be important factors affecting the degree of metabolic disorder. But there are few reports on these fungi. More studies are needed to confirm the effects of these fungi on human. PMID: 32774711 [PubMed]

This study aims to investigate the therapeutic effect of hAEC transplantation on cyclophosphamide-induced primary ovarian insufficiency (POI) rats and evaluate the underlying mechanisms by mRNA sequencing of ovarian samples. Notably, hAECs mainly located in the interstitial area of the ovaries rather than follicles. hAEC transplantation led to a slight increase in body and ovary weight, normalized irregular estrous cycles, decreased serum follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and increased anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) level and restored follicle pools in POI rats. Ovarian expression of AMH, follicle stimulating hormone recept...
