Management of elbow (ulnohumeral) arthritis in the young active patient

The management of elbow arthritis in the young active patient (typically less than 60 years of age), represents a challenge due to the high functional demands of such patients coupled with their increased life expectancy when compared to a more elderly population. There is no effective long-term treatment available and, as such, young patients are likely to require multiple treatment approaches through their lifetime. The primary aim for the treatment of the ulnohumeral arthritis is to restore a relatively pain-free functional joint whilst preserving future surgical options.
