Response Letter to the Editor: Retiring Usage of “Debulking Surgery”

We thank Conroy and colleagues for their interest in our study of complications and survivorship trends among patients with ovarian cancer.1 They report that their patients have communicated concerns with usage of the term “debulking surgery” since it can imply threats to their sexuality and femininity. We agree that it is important for researchers and clinicians to consider the implications of the use of medical terminology and to be open to criticisms when these terms may be interpreted as offensive by patients and others alike.
