Commentary to 'Continence after BNR in the Complete Repair of Bladder Exstrophy (CPRE): A Single Institution Expanded Experience
This study reviews continence outcomes among 42 bladder exstrophy patients who underwent a modified Young-Dees Leadbetter bladder neck reconstruction (BNR). These patients had persistent, continuous incontinence following reportedly successful CPREs as infants and were referred to the authors ’ institution for further management. Although a quarter of these patients remained continuously incontinent after BNR, more than half achieved day and nighttime continence. The authors observed that a greater number of patients who improved had had osteotomies at initial CPRE and did not have an interval ureteral reimplant before their BNR.
