Risk for Physician Burnout in the American Allergist-Immunologist Workforce: A Report from the ACAAI Physician Wellness Taskforce

Physician burnout has been increasingly recognized as a public health crisis (1,2). American physicians have higher burnout rates compared with age, gender and lifestyle-matched adults who do not practice medicine. American physicians currently experience a higher suicide rate ( average approximately 1 per day) than any other group of professionals (3,4). Over 200 studies have been published in health-related journals on the topic of physician burnout with additional news, articles, and research published almost daily .
