ESA Statement on Withdrawal of U.S. from the World Health Organization

Annapolis, MD; June 11, 2020 —Diseases spread by insects and other public health threats are not confined by national borders. The Entomological Society of America (ESA) is deeply concerned by the Trump administration’s decision to end the relationship between the U.S. and the World Health Organization (WHO). WHO has been o n the front lines of every major infectious disease outbreak since its foundation, from Ebola and Zika to the current COVID-19 pandemic. It also plays a critical role in helping manage and protect against diseases spread by insects and their relatives.
