Alcohol consumption and risk of breast and ovarian cancer: a Mendelian randomization study
Alcohol consumption is an established risk factor for several health-related outcomes. A recent analysis of data on nearly 600,000 individuals has demonstrated that the association between alcohol intake and risk of all-cause mortality begins at consumption levels much lower than generally believed [1]. Alcohol use has also been linked to an increased risk of several cancers. A retrospective analysis aggregating data from invasive cancer cases among American adults aged ≥ 30 years has estimated alcohol intake as the third largest contributor to all cancer cases among women [2].
